Frederick Douglass Moorefield Jr., the Deputy Chief Information Officer for Command, Control, and Communications at the Office of the US Secretary of Defense, has been arrested and charged with running a dogfighting ring for over 20 years. This information was confirmed by the Department of Justice’s press release.
Moorefield and his accomplice Mario Damon Flythe operated under the aliases “Geehad Kennels” and “Razor Sharp Kennels,” respectively.
The pair were involved in discussions about training methods, shared dogfighting videos, and organized dogfights. They also placed bets on these brutal fights and circulated media reports about other dogfighters who had been apprehended by law enforcement.

On September 6, 2023, law enforcement officers executed search warrants at Moorefield and Flythe’s residences in Maryland. They recovered and seized twelve dogs. Additionally, they found veterinary steroids, training schedules, a blood-stained carpet, and a weighted dog vest labeled “Geehad Kennels.” A device consisting of an electrical plug and jumper cables, suspected to be used for executing dogs that lost in fights, was also confiscated.
If convicted, Moorefield and Flythe could each face up to five years in federal prison for possessing, training, or transporting animals for participation in an animal fighting venture.
Lt. Cmdr. Tim Gorman, a Pentagon spokesman, confirmed that the Defense Department was aware of the criminal complaint filed against Moorefield in federal district court in Baltimore.
The investigation into this dogfighting ring, known as “the DMV Board,” has been ongoing for years. Last year, nine other dogfighters were indicted in Virginia, with eight of them pleading guilty and cooperating with investigators.
These individuals communicated through the “Telegram” messaging app, discussing training fighting dogs, sharing videos, arranging fights and wagers, and discussing methods of killing dogs that lost fights.

Online records maintained by the dogs’ owners indicated that Moorefield had been involved in dogfighting since at least 2002. Evidence of his involvement, such as training for fights and refereeing other owners’ dogfights, has been found periodically over the years. Despite the arrests of other individuals in the ring, fights have still taken place this year, suggesting that Moorefield and Flythe were still active participants.
Moorefield’s profile has been removed from the U.S. Department of Defense’s website, but internet users were able to archive the page before its deletion. The Pentagon has confirmed that Moorefield is no longer in the workplace but has not provided further comments on this personnel matter.
