Law enforcement reports reveal that Routh, with a history of criminal activities spanning decades including felony weapons charges and a 2002 arrest for possessing a weapon of mass destruction, had displayed erratic behavior over time. His political stance shifted markedly in the lead-up to the assassination attempt, transitioning from a supporter to a vocal critic of Trump, expressing anti-Trump sentiments on social platforms. On the day of the attack, Routh was apprehended near Trump’s golf course, armed with an AK-47 and other weapons, after being found hiding in the bushes. The FBI confirmed this as the second assassination attempt on Trump in recent times, following a previous incident in Pennsylvania where Trump was grazed by a bullet.
