The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) has released its annual report, which estimates the size of the illegal immigrant population residing in the United States.
Based on the latest Census Bureau data, the FAIR research team found there are at least 16.8 million illegal immigrants currently living in American communities.
This is an increase of 2.3 million since President Biden assumed office in January 2021 and a rise of 1.3 million since the same period last year.
Rising Costs of Illegal Immigration Put Strain on American Taxpayers
According to researchers, the rapid increase of new illegal immigrants in the past year has contributed an extra $12.6 billion annually to the costs of illegal immigration.
This surge pushes the total net cost to a minimum of $163 billion per year. Predictions suggest, if the current rate of illegal immigration persists, the annual net cost could surpass $200 billion by the year 2026.

FAIR President Dan Stein stated the fiscal and social burdens resulting from the Biden administration’s policies on immigration enforcement are unsustainable.
The report also suggests at the current rate of illegal immigration, more illegal immigrants will have settled across the U.S. in Biden’s first three years in office than in the entire decade of the 2010s.
The Burden on American Taxpayers: Unpaid Medical Bills and Overwhelmed Schools
This surge in immigration is causing social unrest, conflict between states and communities, along with overwhelming pressure on school districts and social service providers.
Stein added economic migrants from around the world are flooding across the U.S. borders.

The House Homeland Security Committee outlined how illegal immigrants are contributing to rising hospital costs through billions of dollars in unpaid medical bills, a burden that is then shouldered by American taxpayers.
Further, a study from the Center for Immigration Studies reveals since 1980, mass immigration has resulted in a threefold increase in the number of public school students from immigrant-led households in the U.S.
This trend also led to a disproportionate rise in the number of low-income students in public schools, exacerbating pressures on the educational system.
