Advocate for Police Funding Reduction Suffers from Violent Crime

Shivanthi Sathanandan, a prominent liberal politician from Minnesota and an ardent supporter of defunding the police, has become a victim of the very crime she believed could be mitigated through social programs.

This incident sparked a heated debate about the consequences of radical policies on public safety.

Sathanandan, who holds the position of vice chair in the Minnesota DFL Party, was subjected to a brutal carjacking and assault in broad daylight, right in her own driveway.

The horrifying event unfolded before the eyes of her young children, leaving them traumatized. The assailants were four armed young men who threatened not only Sathanandan and her children but also their neighbors who tried to intervene.

The aftermath of the incident saw Sathanandan with a broken leg, deep lacerations on her head, and extensive bruising all over her body.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, she shared a graphic image of her battered face, expressing her determination to fight back against such criminals and reclaim their city.

This traumatic experience has led Sathanandan to call for stricter penalties for juvenile offenders. She expressed her gratitude towards the police officers who responded to her emergency, a stark contrast to her previous stance of advocating for the dismantling of the police department.

Critics pointed out the irony of Sathanandan’s situation. They argue her case serves as a potent example of the potential dangers of adopting radical policies without fully understanding their implications for public safety.

It is noteworthy that Sathanandan was once a vocal supporter of dismantling the very police department she now praises for their support.

In a post from June 2020, Sathanandan wrote, “We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. Say it with me. DISMANTLE The Minneapolis Police Department.”

She also urged her followers to listen and learn from the black community, amplifying their message against the police department which she claimed had systematically failed them.

However, following the incident, Sathanandan thanked the Minneapolis 4th Precinct Officers, Mayor Frey, Chief O’Hara, Paramedics, neighbors, friends, and DFL family for their support. She expressed her gratitude towards the community that enveloped her in love during this trying time.

Meanwhile, the Minneapolis Police Department confirmed receiving a report about the alleged carjacking.
