The Biden administration has revealed a new gun control plan which has prompted concerns from a prominent gun rights organization. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has announced a new rule that could redefine the criteria for being “engaged in the business” of selling firearms. According to the Gun Owners of America (GOA), this regulation would classify any individual who sells even one firearm for profit as a firearms dealer, requiring them to obtain a federal license, conduct background checks, and complete extensive registration paperwork.
This rule change is seen as an enhancement of the ATF’s illegal gun registry and is expected to make it more difficult for private individuals to sell guns. The only options left for them would be to become a licensed gun dealer or to coordinate trips with potential gun buyers to find a gun store. Erich Pratt, the Senior Vice President of the GOA, has warned about the implications of this new rule, stating that it is part of an anti-gunners’ long-term strategy to enact universal registration of firearms and eventually confiscate all firearms.
This new rule comes after Texas Senator John Cornyn introduced “compromise” gun control legislation following a mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas in May 2022. The legislation required individuals who predominantly earn a profit from buying and selling firearms to register as a Federal Firearm Licensee, conduct background checks, and keep records. Critics argue that the Biden administration is using these measures to discourage Americans from arming themselves and ultimately disarm the population to establish a leftist dictatorship without effective resistance.
As law-abiding gun owners prepare for what may come next, it is evident that the fight for gun rights in America is far from over.
