In a disturbing incident that sent shockwaves through the community, a pregnant black woman was fatally shot by an Ohio police officer. The incident, which occurred on August 24, 2023, sparked widespread protests led by Black Lives Matter activists.
The woman, identified as 21-year-old Ta’Kiya Young, was a mother of two and expecting her third child. She visited a Kroger store in Blendon Township, Ohio, where she was suspected of shoplifting bottles of alcohol.
Tragically, Young never returned home from this trip.

The fatal encounter unfolded in the parking lot of the store.
Body camera footage released by the Ohio police shows a Kroger employee informing the officers about a theft. The employee pointed out Young, who was seated in a Lexus sedan without license tags, parked in a handicapped spot right in front of the store.
As the officers approached the vehicle and instructed Young to exit, she became aggressive and defied their commands. In a chilling moment captured on the bodycam, Young is heard asking, “What? Are you going to shoot me?” before accelerating the car towards the officer.
Blendon Township Police Chief John Belford, after reviewing the footage, stated the officer was directly in the path of the oncoming car and had no choice but to discharge his weapon.
The officer fired a single shot through the front windshield, resulting in Young’s death and the loss of her unborn child.
This tragic incident has ignited a firestorm of controversy and protest. Black Lives Matter activists took to the streets of Columbus, Ohio, chanting slogans such as “Whose streets? Our streets!” and “Say her name, Ta’Kiya Young!”
Their signs echoed their chants, reading “No Justice, no peace,” and “Stop killer cops.”
In Africa women are being sold to the highest bidders.
These women won’t get reparations, unlike scrounging chancers across the west who cry about oppression whilst incidents like this are ignored.

While the police maintain the officer acted in self-defense, Young’s family and supporters argue the situation should have been handled differently.
They believe the shooting was unnecessary and alternative methods could have been used to de-escalate the situation.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing tensions between law enforcement and society as a whole.
