Authorities have captured a Democratic supporter who is suspected of starting a massive fire in Yosemite National Park. The fire occurred in July 2022 and resulted in significant destruction, including the loss of over one hundred homes and injuries to several firefighters.
Initially, Democratic leaders attributed the fire to climate change. However, it has now come to light that Edward Fredrick Wackerman, a resident of Mariposa, California, has been charged with aggravated arson and other offenses in connection with the fire.
According to government records, Wackerman has made $1,775 in donations to Democratic candidates and groups since 2020. This includes contributions to Tim Ryan’s U.S. Senate campaign and the Lincoln Project, a well-known liberal mega PAC.
The fire, named the Oak Fire, devastated 127 houses and 66 outbuildings, scorching 30 square miles of land. The smoke even spread as far as Nevada and the San Francisco Bay Area.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Mariposa County’s District Attorney, Walter Wall, is focused on ensuring a fair trial and upholding justice in this case. However, authorities have not yet revealed how they suspect Wackerman started the fire.
Climate change has been a central issue in this incident, with Democratic politicians such as former Vice President Al Gore and Senator Alex Padilla emphasizing the urgency in addressing climate change to prevent future wildfires and safeguard communities and resources.
