Fox News announced on Tuesday that a camera operator and a local producer who were covering the war in Ukraine had been killed in an attack. The vehicle they were traveling in was struck by incoming fire in the village of Horenka, northwest of Kyiv.
The death of camera operator Pierre Zakrzewski, 55, was announced by Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott in a memo to employees. Zakrzewski had been under fire during the incident and sadly did not survive. Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra “Sasha” Kuvshynova, 24, who was working as a producer for Fox, also lost her life in the same attack. Fox News correspondent Benjamin Hall was injured and is currently hospitalized in Ukraine.
Bill Hemmer, an anchor at Fox News, expressed his grief over the loss of Pierre Zakrzewski, calling him an “absolute legend” at the network. Hemmer shared this news with viewers on Tuesday morning.
Pierre Zakrzewski, an Irish national based in London, had been in Ukraine since February. He had covered multiple wars for Fox News in the past, including the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria. In recognition of his work, Fox News awarded him an “Unsung Hero” award in December. According to Scott, Zakrzewski was highly skilled and capable in various roles in the field, such as photographer, engineer, editor, and producer. His dedication, professionalism, and bravery were well-known among journalists from various media outlets.
The producer, Oleksandra Kuvshynova, had been working with Fox for several weeks in her home country. Scott mentioned in a later memo that the network had delayed announcing her death out of respect for her family. Colleagues who spent time with her described her as hardworking, funny, kind, and brave.
