Is Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Remake Headed for a PR Catastrophe?

The Hollywood landscape is no stranger to big-budget flops. It seems Disney might be on the brink of another with its live-action remake of “Snow White.”

The film, which has been subject to a wave of criticism even before its release, appears to be setting up its young star, Rachel Zegler, as the scapegoat for its potential failure.

Hollywood budgets are notoriously extravagant, often leading to situations where even blockbuster successes can end up in the red.

For instance, the new Indiana Jones movie needed to rake in nearly a billion dollars to break even, but fell short by hundreds of millions.

Similarly, Tom Cruise’s latest Mission: Impossible installment could also face losses despite selling millions of tickets. This trend of overblown budgets and underwhelming returns is a worrying sign for the industry.

The upcoming “Snow White” remake has been a topic of controversy since its inception.

The casting of Rachel Zegler, a young Latina actress, in the role of Snow White, a character traditionally depicted with snow-white skin, raised eyebrows. Furthermore, the decision to replace the iconic Seven Dwarves with a diverse group of magical creatures has been met with skepticism and ridicule.

Adding fuel to the fire, the character of Prince Charming was removed from the narrative, a change that Zegler seems unable to stop discussing. These drastic alterations to the beloved fairytale left many fans feeling alienated and skeptical about the film’s success.

Zegler herself is described as a “walking PR disaster” for the film. Her public comments and social media activity have drawn criticism, with one Twitter user even labeling her “the most unlikable actress I have ever heard.”

Yet, some speculate this may not be an accident.

In the world of Hollywood, every public appearance and interview is meticulously planned and approved by a team of agents and managers.

Given this, it’s puzzling why Disney hasn’t provided Zegler with a script to navigate the PR minefield surrounding the film. Could it be that they’re intentionally allowing her to take the fall for the film’s potential failure?

This theory isn’t entirely unfounded. Disney’s management has shown a tendency to align with their woke staff, even when their decisions lead to the decline of major franchises like Star Wars and Marvel.

If “Snow White 2024” turns out to be another big-budget flop, it wouldn’t be surprising if the blame was shifted onto the young and inexperienced Zegler.

Zegler’s recent comments criticizing the original 1937 animated Snow White have only added to the controversy. Her remarks were met with backlash, leading her to claim she’d been taken out of context.

As the release date of the film approaches, it remains to be seen whether Disney’s gamble will pay off or if “Snow White” will join the ranks of Hollywood’s big-budget failures.
