In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the mainstream media has been largely successful in portraying the Ukrainian counteroffensive as triumphant. However, the reality on the ground tells a different story. The Russian forces, with their superior firepower and manpower, are steadily gaining ground in this war of attrition.
The recent days have seen the Russian forces systematically depleted Ukrainian infrastructure, disrupting logistics, and causing significant damage to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This strategy is expected to make the upcoming winter a harsh experience for the Ukrainians.

One of the major blows dealt by the Russian forces was the destruction of a joint weapons and ammunition warehouse in the Kiselevka area of the Kherson region. A cruise missile strike resulted in a massive explosion that destroyed 12 hangars storing more than 3,000 tons of ammunition of various calibers. The aftermath of the strike was visible for miles around, with burning debris scattered across the landscape.
This attack is part of a larger strategy aimed at weakening the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ ability to conduct intense warfare. According to Boris Rozhin, a military expert with the Center for Military-Political Journalism, such strikes have become more frequent as the focus shifts towards this objective.
In addition to the destruction of the ammunition depot, the Russian Aerospace Forces have also targeted Ukrainian airfields. A MiG-29 airplane of the Ukrainian Air Force was destroyed at the Kulbakino airfield in Nikolayev Oblast. These attacks on airfields have intensified, but the mainstream media has largely ignored these developments.

The Ukrainian forces are now grappling with a new threat – Russian drones. The destruction of a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter at the Dolgintsevo base near Kryvoi Rog could be the first demonstration of the updated Lancet drone, which has a range of action of 70 kilometers. While the Ukrainian forces are making timely withdrawals of aircraft from targeted areas, the Russian forces found alternative solutions to destroy enemy aircraft. This evolving warfare strategy is causing significant problems for the Ukrainian forces.
The Russian forces, with their superior firepower and strategic attacks, are steadily gaining ground in this ongoing conflict. As the winter approaches, the situation is expected to become even more challenging for Ukraine.
