NYPD Sergeant Loses Finger After Confrontation with Undocumented Immigrant in Holding Cell


An undocumented immigrant allegedly bit off a finger of a New York Police Department (NYPD) sergeant while being held in a cell. This violent incident occurred on September 26, 2023, and has sparked widespread outrage and concern.

The perpetrator, identified as 28-year-old Lenni Rodriguez-Cruz, reportedly created chaos on the streets before being arrested. Reports indicate that Rodriguez-Cruz crashed into an NYPD vehicle and then hit three other vehicles before finally coming to a stop.

As a result of his reckless actions, Rodriguez-Cruz was arrested and taken to a holding cell at the 103rd Precinct building.

However, the drama did not end there. While in the holding cell, Rodriguez-Cruz started behaving unruly. In a horrifying turn of events, he bit off a portion of a sergeant’s finger, causing serious physical injury.

An officer who witnessed the shocking attack described it as an appalling act of violence that left everyone in disbelief.

Following the incident, Rodriguez-Cruz is now facing a total of 10 charges, including driving under the influence (DUI), assault with intent to cause disfigurement, and assaulting a police officer.

The other charges against him include injuring an on-duty officer, reckless endangerment, fleeing a traffic stop, reckless driving, operating an unregistered vehicle, driving while apparently impaired, and refusing to take a breath test.

Despite the seriousness of these charges, Rodriguez-Cruz has pleaded not guilty to all of them. He is currently being held on a $350,000 bond.
