Renowned ‘Rocky’ Star Burt Young Dies at Age 83

The Hollywood industry is mourning the loss of beloved actor Burt Young.

Burt Young, known for his portrayal of Paulie Pennino in the iconic Rocky franchise, passed away at the age of 83. His daughter, Anne Morea Steingieser, confirmed the news, but the exact cause of death has not been disclosed.

Born as Gerald Tommaso DeLouise on April 30, 1940, in Queens, New York, Young had a successful career spanning over 160 film and television projects. Before becoming an actor, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1959.

While in the Marines, Young developed an interest in boxing, which later influenced his portrayal of Paulie in the Rocky series.

Young made his acting debut in 1969 in the television series ‘The Doctors’, where he played an uncredited role as a bartender.

His breakthrough came when he starred in the Rocky franchise alongside Sylvester Stallone. His performance in the first Rocky film (1976) earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

In addition to his acting career, Young was also a talented writer and painter. He wrote two stage plays, including ‘SOS’, and a historical novel titled ‘Endings’. Some of his artwork was even featured in the 2006 film, ‘Rocky Balboa’.

Upon hearing the news of Young’s passing, Sylvester Stallone, his co-star in the Rocky series, paid a heartfelt tribute on his Instagram page. He shared a throwback image of himself with Young on the set of the classic film, expressing his deep sorrow and admiration for the late actor.
