Walz Supports Providing Drivers’ Licenses, Free Tuition, Healthcare for Undocumented Immigrants to Ensure Safety on the Roads

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz supports policies allowing undocumented immigrants to access drivers’ licenses, state-funded tuition, and healthcare benefits, citing their contribution to the safety and prosperity of the state. In a recent interview on Fox News Sunday, Walz addressed concerns about the funding and impact of these programs for non-citizens.

Walz has passed progressive policies, including expanding drivers’ licenses for undocumented immigrants in March 2023 through the “Drivers Licenses for All” bill. This law enables anyone in the state, regardless of legal status, to acquire a license. This move aligns Minnesota with nearly two dozen other states providing this benefit, which Walz believes enhances road safety by ensuring licensed drivers can obtain insurance, reducing the number of uninsured motorists.
