The smoke from the wildfires in Canada reached Chicago early on Tuesday, causing the air to be toxic and dangerous to breathe.
In addition to Chicago, the air quality in Detroit, Michigan also reached hazardous levels due to the smoke. Other cities in the Midwest have also been affected.
AP reported that concerns about air quality have been raised in central and eastern areas of the United States, as well as the Great Lakes region. The smoke from the ongoing wildfires in Canada has been carried by the wind to these areas.
Worst Air Quality
The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) AirNow.gov website stated that certain regions in Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and lower Michigan had the worst air quality in the United States.
Detroit, Chicago, and Milwaukee were classified by the EPA as having “very unhealthy” air quality.
