In a shocking turn of events, Lieutenant Jessica Taylor, a 23-year veteran of the Seattle Police Department, resigned. Her departure on August 1st was far from quiet. She provided an unfiltered and raw insight into the city’s deteriorating state and its leadership.
Taylor refused to fill out the standard Exit Form, instead opting to pen a 15-page resignation letter to Chief Adrian Diaz.
The letter, shared with the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH, offered an unapologetic critique of the city’s leadership and their handling of law enforcement issues.

In her scathing letter, Taylor lambasted the city’s leadership, including the mayor and the Seattle City Council. She accused them of losing touch with reality and prioritizing political correctness over the safety and well-being of the city’s residents.
“The toxic mix of the Seattle City Council’s absurdity, the spinelessness of the mayor, the leniency of the prosecutor’s office. Your failed leadership has accelerated this city’s downhill slide straight to rock bottom,” she wrote.
Taylor didn’t hold back in her criticism of Mayor Bruce Harrell either, stating he “lacks the courage” to enforce the law and confront the council.
She also pointed out the city’s permissive attitude towards criminals, which has led to Seattle becoming a “playground for anarchists and criminals.”

The former lieutenant’s resignation comes at a time when the Seattle Police Department is under siege from council members seeking to defund it.
Amidst debates about cutting 50% from the department’s budget, nearly 600 officers have left the department. Taylor highlighted the dangerous understaffing and the ruthlessly long hours officers are forced to work due to the staffing crisis.
Despite her harsh criticisms, Taylor expressed her love for the city and her dedication to serving the community. She praised her fellow officers as dedicated, brave, and professional individuals who will continue to serve the public despite the challenging circumstances.
The Seattle Police Department did not respond directly to Taylor’s criticisms. However, a spokesperson stated that they are working hard to ensure officers feel valued and respected for their hard work.
Taylor’s resignation and her brutally honest letter serve as a wake-up call for Seattle’s leadership. It’s a stark reminder of the dire consequences of prioritizing political correctness over the safety and well-being of the city’s residents.
As she rightly said, “Seattle deserves better.”
