Three lawyers representing Hunter Biden have decided to withdraw from his ongoing case. This surprising turn of events comes after the dismissal of two tax misdemeanors against Biden by a Delaware judge, following the request of prosecutors from the Department of Justice (DOJ). The departure of these lawyers has raised concerns about the future of Hunter’s legal defense.
The attorneys from Latham & Watkins LLP – Brian C. McManus, Timothy H. McCarten, and Matthew S. Salerno – filed a motion to withdraw their legal counsel for Biden.
After Delaware U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika granted the DOJ’s request to dismiss tax charges in Delaware, it opened up the possibility of charging Hunter in Washington, D.C., or the Central District of California.

In the motion to withdraw, it was stated that Hunter was informed of and agreed to the withdrawal. Hunter confirmed that this withdrawal would not have any negative impact on him and expressed satisfaction with the continued representation of Messrs. Lowell and Jones.
However, the exodus of these attorneys is not the only controversy surrounding Hunter’s legal team. In a surprising development, Abbe Lowell of Winston & Strawn LLP and Richard I.G. Jones Jr. of Berger Harris LLP will now represent Hunter Biden.
This comes after Hunter’s top defense counsel, Christopher J. Clark, also withdrew from the case due to his involvement in the failed negotiations between DOJ prosecutors and Hunter’s legal team for a guilty plea.

The guilty plea fell through due to a disagreement between Hunter’s legal team and DOJ prosecutors regarding an immunity provision in the diversion agreement for his felony gun charge. Consequently, Hunter pleaded not guilty to the two tax misdemeanors, which were later dismissed.
Adding to the controversy, Latham & Watkins faced criticism when a staff member allegedly misrepresented her identity to the Clerk’s office. She claimed to work for Theodore Kittila, the attorney for the House Ways and Means Committee. The committee sought to present testimony from IRS whistleblowers demonstrating “political interference” in the Hunter Biden investigation. However, the incident was later attributed to a “miscommunication,” and the staff member denied any intention to deceive the court in a sworn affidavit.
Meanwhile, amidst the legal turmoil, Hunter Biden plans to join President Joe Biden for a family vacation in Lake Tahoe, California.
This news comes as reports indicate that the Biden family and its associates have received more than $20 million in payments from business associates in Ukraine, Russia, China, Romania, and Kazakhstan, according to the House Oversight Committee.
