The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has made the decision to reject 800 applications from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport criminal noncitizens. Instead of assisting ICE with its operations, the LAPD is committed to obstructing its efforts.
Prohibition
According to a report by the Los Angeles Daily News, the LAPD received 783 detainer petitions from ICE in the previous year but refused to recognize any of them. The report also highlighted the LAPD’s dedication to the California Values Act, which prohibits law enforcement agencies from assisting immigration enforcement.
California became a sanctuary state after Gov. Jerry Brown (D) signed Senate Bill 54, the California Values Act, in October 2017. Newsom should welcome them with open arms. Congrat’s to the Texas Gov for doing a great job!

The California Values Act, signed into law in 2017 by Democratic Governor Jerry Brown, not only blocks local and state law enforcement agencies from assisting federal immigration enforcement but also designates public schools, libraries, health facilities, and courthouses as secure havens for illegal immigrants.
Doubling Down
The city of Los Angeles does not cooperate with immigration authorities. Suspected criminals are entered into a computerized booking system, accessible to local, state, and federal law enforcement, which allows immigration officials to know about foreign nationals living in the city. However, they have limited authority to take action against them due to the city’s sanctuary policies.
Hooray for LA, a sanctuary city actually being used as a sanctuary for the unregistered migrants/aliens/whatever. Special thanks to hair gel model Gavin Newsom.

Despite already having a large number of illegal immigrants, Los Angeles city council voted to designate L.A. as a sanctuary city. This designation prohibits the use of any city resources, property, or workforce for federal government immigration enforcement. While illegal noncitizens are made to feel welcome, the LAPD is facing a significant loss of officers.
