Maria Feychting, a professor of epidemiology at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, stated that there is currently no strong evidence linking exposure to electromagnetic fields during mobile phone use to adverse health effects.

However, she did acknowledge the need for further research, particularly concerning the higher frequencies used by 5G technology.

In France, regulators found that the iPhone 12 emitted radiation levels 40% above the permissible limits when placed next to the human body, leading to a temporary halt in iPhone 12 sales in the country.

Nevertheless, French digital minister Jean-Noel Barrot emphasized that the device’s radiation levels were significantly lower than those proven to potentially cause harm according to scientific studies. He also suggested that a software update could address the issue.

Apple responded to these concerns by stating that its devices comply with global standards. The company plans to release a software update specifically for users in France to align with the testing protocol used by French regulators.

The iPhone 12, released in September 2020, has sold over 100 million units worldwide. However, Apple is now planning to phase out the model following the release of the iPhone 15.
