Listeria Found in New York City Cheese

A recall has been issued for an excess of 1,400 pounds of cheeses that were distributed at farmer’s markets in New York, due to possible listeria contamination.

Contaminated Cheese

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the warning after tests showed the bacteria, which may result in stillborn babies and miscarriages, was present in Cooperstown Cheese Company cheese.

They claimed the cheeses were being distributed at the markets for the previous two months and were additionally available in various eateries and retail establishments.

Americans are warned to dispose of any of the recalled goods right away or bring them to the merchants for a complete refund.

When consumed, listeria can give adults good health symptoms like headaches, muscle rigidity, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are especially at risk, since an infection could result in miscarriages or stillbirths.

The FDA claimed normal testing of the item revealed the cheese contamination.

Although it was unclear exactly how the listeria entered the cheese, it has, in the past, been connected to makers utilizing tainted milk from cows. If milk unintentionally comes into contact with cow stool, it could become contaminated.

According to the FDA, the cheese was originally packaged in cheese papers or plastic.

Additionally, they contained tags that identified the kind of cheese that was originally wrapped.

Eleven different cheeses are impacted in all. These include Bobby’s Got the Blues, Toma Torino, SK, Jersey Gold with garlic, Marielle, Jersey Girl with garlic/rosemary, Jersey Girl spring onion, and Jersey Girl.

Based upon how they had been kept, the FDA stated their shelf life was between two and four weeks after purchase.

The Milford, upstate New York-based company stopped producing while the FDA looks into the contamination’s origin.

No Illness Detected

At this point, no health issues have been observed.

It follows the removal of fruit in frozen form off the shelves of national retailers last year, due to the presence of bacteria. The FDA made the recall announcement and said that tainted pineapple was to blame.
