Pop sensation Britney Spears found herself unexpectedly caught up in an alarming event on Wednesday night in Las Vegas. A member of NBA player Victor Wembanyama’s security team reportedly struck her in the face.
The music icon, along with her husband Sam Asghari and two companions, was dining at the renowned Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel. This is when the incident transpired, as per an exclusive report by TMZ.
Spears Allegedly Assaulted by NBA Player’s Security Staff at Restaurant
On their way to the restaurant, Spears noticed Wembanyama. Being an avid fan, she walked up to the basketball pro to ask for a photo. This benign fan gesture, however, took a regrettable twist.
As Spears lightly tapped Wembanyama on his right shoulder, Damian Smith, the Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs, responded. Smith allegedly swung his hand back at Spears, causing her to stumble and lose her glasses.
Following the incident, Spears picked herself up and continued on to her table.
Smith, realizing his mistake, approached Spears to apologize for his hasty response, claiming he hadn’t recognized her at the time of the incident. Spears accepted his apology, but the issue was far from resolved.

Following the incident, Spears’ security team engaged in discussions with Victor Wembanyama’s security personnel. Subsequently, a police report alleging battery was filed by Spears’ team with the Metropolitan Police Department.
Spears to Meet with Police Authorities Regarding Alleged Assault
According to sources, Spears is slated for a face-to-face meeting with Vegas police authorities to discuss the incident further.
Law enforcement sources informed TMZ that officers who responded to the incident at the ARIA reviewed security camera footage. The footage showed Smith pushing Spears’ hand away, resulting in her own hand, not Smith’s, striking her face.
The police report lists Damian Smith, the Director of Team Security for the Spurs, as the individual who hit Spears.
Law enforcement sources conveyed to TMZ that this incident is not being treated as a criminal matter; they concluded Smith was aiming to protect Victor Wembanyama, rather than intentionally harm Spears.

However, a recent update from TMZ revealed an alternate perspective on the investigation from a high-ranking source within the Metro PD.
Contrary to earlier information, this source asserted the incident is indeed the subject of a criminal investigation, which they are treating “as serious as a heart attack.”
They added the case would “likely” be referred to the district attorney; although this does not necessarily guarantee that criminal charges will be filed.
