Larry Nassar, a former USA Gymnastics trainer and doctor, has been convicted of sexually assaulting hundreds of young women in college gymnastics.
He is also in jail for possessing explicit underage materials. Recently, Nassar was attacked and stabbed multiple times by another inmate in jail.
What We Know So Far
Nassar is currently incarcerated at the Coleman Penitentiary in Florida. Due to a lack of prison workers, a dangerous fight broke out.
Nassar’s gymnastics skills did not help him evade the blade, and he was stabbed multiple times in the chest and back.
The victims in his assault case describe him as “vile and disgusting” for his repeated abuse of them while training. Nassar survived this attack and is reportedly in stable condition after being stabbed.

Stricter Rules
The Nassar case prompted several changes in sexual assault laws and led to Michigan State University being ordered to pay a $4.5 million penalty.
The lawsuit is ongoing, and it is related to allegations that MSU failed to respond adequately when accusations against Nassar were brought forward while he was working for them as a gymnastics trainer.
In terms of legal consequences, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer enacted stricter laws regarding sex crimes in legislation signed on June 29 of this year. The new laws make sexual abuse by doctors and those in the medical field even more serious crimes.

The Bottom Line
Nassar is reportedly in stable condition, but the nation’s prisons are understaffed.
Perhaps that is why some Democrats are lenient on crime and allow criminals to roam the streets or receive cashless bail if they cannot afford to post bail.
At least we can be grateful that this particular criminal is behind bars.
