Biden Unveils New Household Device Regulations, Prompting Concern Among Americans

The Biden administration has implemented new regulations targeting various household devices and appliances, causing concern among Americans.

Previously, the president introduced strict rules on gas stoves in relation to climate change. Now, he has proposed new requirements for water heaters and portable gas generators.

Nearly All Portable Gas Generators Could Become Illegal

According to a report by the Washington Free Beacon, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has proposed a new rule that would effectively outlaw almost all types of portable gas generators currently available on the market.

These new regulations come shortly after the Biden administration announced the ban on gas stoves and the US Energy Department introduced stricter draft rules for domestic water heaters.

Under the proposed CPSC regulations, the allowed carbon monoxide emissions from gas generators would be significantly reduced. However, the federal body itself acknowledged that approximately 95% of existing portable generators are unable to meet the new standard.

Industry leaders are concerned that the tight deadline of six months to comply with the new rules would lead to widespread generator shortages. Susan Orenga, the head of the Portable Generator Manufacturers’ Association, explained that designing new devices for the market typically takes several years.

This controversial proposal follows the previous suggestion by Richard Trumka Jr., the CPSC head and a Biden appointee, to ban gas stoves due to perceived safety risks.

Concerns Arise as Americans Face Electricity Shortages

This report highlights that the new Biden regulations come at a time when the risk of electricity outages is growing across America due to the increased reliance on green power sources.

According to a grid watchdog report from May 2023, approximately two-thirds of Americans face an “elevated risk” of blackouts during the summer.

Last year, California experienced multiple power outages during the summer of 2022 due to surging demand for electricity.

The report emphasizes that nearly five million households in the United States rely on portable gas generators to provide electricity during outages.
