Court Blocks Biden Administration’s Social Media Censorship of Free Speech

The interim order from a federal judge in Louisiana prevents the Biden administration from working with Big Tech to restrict Americans from expressing their First Amendment rights.

Excellent News

According to Judge Terry Doughty, if the claims put forward by the plaintiffs are accurate, this current case is probably the most significant attack upon the freedom of speech in United States history.

The federal government and defendants identified here were claimed to have flagrantly disregarded the First Amendment’s guarantee of right to free speech in their efforts to silence alleged misinformation.

The Trump appointee stated that federal departments could cease to collaborate with or “coerce” sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Google, in his 155-page memo determining issued on July 4.

These agencies include the Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Census Bureau, and the Department of Homeland Security.

The Biden administration maintains a track record of boasting about connections with major tech firms to censor information it finds “problematic.”

The court’s order applies to numerous federal agencies, as well as offenders including President Biden, his spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre, his head of digital strategy, and other officials of the Executive Office of the President.

The evidence that has been presented at this point shows a virtually dystopian scenario, according to Doughty.

This case is still quite in the early stages, and at this point, the court is only looking at it in terms of the plaintiffs’ likelihood of success on merit, he wrote.

Freedom of Speech Protected

Doughty stated he anticipates the lawsuit, which was filed by the attorneys general of Missouri and Louisiana, Eric Schmitt and Jeff Landry, to be successful.

He thinks it will succeed on the basis of merit in proving that the government utilized its power to suppress the opposing views on issues.
